New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) In a significant operation against counterfeit products, the Inter-State Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has dismantled a large-scale illegal manufacturing facility for fake Castrol lubricant oil in the Nangloi area of west Delhi, resulting in the confiscation of stock valued at Rs one crore.
During the operation, authorities seized nearly 3,950 litres of both raw and counterfeit lubricant oil, approximately 12,000 empty Castrol bottles and buckets, as well as machinery and packaging materials worth over Rs one crore.
The primary suspect, identified as Sandeep (36), a local resident of Nangloi, was apprehended on-site while allegedly overseeing the illicit production activities.
According to police reports, this operation involved the unauthorized use of the Castrol lubricant oil brand, thereby breaching trademark and copyright laws and misleading consumers across various states.
The Crime Branch initiated this operation based on credible information received from an authorized representative of M/s Castrol Ltd., who reported the unlawful manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit Castrol products.
Following this tip-off, a specialized team executed a raid at Kamruddin Nagar in Nangloi, uncovering a fully functional counterfeit lubricant manufacturing unit.
During the raid, the unit was actively involved in filtering, coloring, filling, labeling, and sealing counterfeit lubricant oil to mimic genuine Castrol products closely.
Among the confiscated materials were around 3,600 litres of raw lubricant oil, 370 litres of fake Castrol oil, over 11,300 empty bottles in various sizes, 464 empty Castrol buckets, phony labels, sealing machines, packaging materials, and coloring agents.
The counterfeit products were identified and validated by the company’s authorized representative, following proper legal procedures. A secondary location nearby was also searched, leading to further discoveries of empty drums and bottles.
Investigations revealed that the accused sourced low-cost lubricant oil locally and rebranded it with fake labels, packaging, and coloring agents to pass it off as authentic Castrol oil. The counterfeit items were distributed to clients in other states, primarily through cash transactions, indicating an inter-state distribution network.
A case has been filed under Sections 63 and 68 of the Copyright Act and Sections 349 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“Further investigation is ongoing to identify accomplices, transporters, financial operators, and the full scope of the counterfeit network. Additional inquiries are in progress,” stated DCP Aditya Gautam.
