Kolkata, Feb 8 (NationPress) Following the overwhelming triumph of the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections, a political clash has erupted concerning the implications of these results on the critical "Battle for West Bengal" in 2026.
The outcomes in Delhi have fortified BJP leaders in West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, noted that the BJP’s achievement in Delhi's Bengali-populated areas holds considerable significance.
"The Delhi outcomes offer a valuable lesson that the unity of the common populace is essential for dismantling misrule. Should the citizens of West Bengal unite, the end of Trinamool Congress's misgovernance will be inevitable," Adhikari remarked.
BJP state President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar stated that the Delhi results mirror the public’s confidence in the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. "We are optimistic about a potential shift in West Bengal as well," he expressed.
Conversely, a Trinamool Congress leader asserted that the outcomes in Delhi would bear no influence on the West Bengal Assembly elections set for 2026.
"Trinamool Congress is poised to reclaim power in 2026, securing at least 250 seats with Mamata Banerjee continuing as Chief Minister for a fourth consecutive term. We are unfazed by the events in Delhi. There is no significant impact on West Bengal," he stated.
Notably, as of Saturday evening, neither Mamata Banerjee nor Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee had commented on the Delhi results.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Congress leadership appeared more preoccupied with addressing accusations that their division of anti-BJP votes facilitated the BJP's victory in the national capital.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former state Congress President and five-time MP, claimed the Congress should not be held accountable for its decision to contest all seats in New Delhi.
"The Aam Aadmi Party chose to contest independently from the start, refusing to allow Congress any ground in the Delhi Assembly elections. All regional parties, including Trinamool Congress, supported AAP entirely in the Delhi elections. Yet, the results are evident. It is clear that a larger anti-BJP coalition cannot solidify without Congress," Chowdhury concluded.
