New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Due to the ongoing severe air pollution and persistently high levels of the Air Quality Index (AQI), the Delhi government has decided to halt physical classes for students from Nursery to Class V starting this Tuesday, as stated by an official from the Education Department.

Schools have been advised to adopt a hybrid model for other students.

According to the directives from the Directorate of Education, all government, government-aided, and private recognized schools in the city will only conduct online classes for Nursery to Class V students during this time.

Education Minister Ashish Sood reiterated that child safety is the government's utmost concern, stating, “The health and well-being of our children is our highest priority.”

With hazardous AQI levels in Delhi soaring to 498 on Monday amidst a thick blanket of smog, the government has taken this precautionary step to safeguard young children from the harmful effects of air pollution.

“We are continuously monitoring the situation and will make further decisions that are in the best interest of our students,” Sood added.

This decision underscores the government's commitment to protecting the health of young children, who are especially susceptible to air pollution.

It is worth noting that classes for students beyond Class V will continue according to the existing guidelines issued on December 13, 2025.

All Heads of Schools have been instructed to adhere strictly to these new guidelines and to notify parents and guardians about the changes in arrangements.

Deputy Directors of Education (Zones/Districts) have also been tasked with monitoring the implementation and ensuring compliance.

In conclusion, the Delhi government is dedicated to ensuring student health while facilitating continuity in education through suitable alternative methods.

Point of View

I believe this decision by the Delhi government reflects a responsible approach to safeguarding our children's health. The implications of air pollution are profound, and prioritizing the safety of young students while providing alternative learning methods demonstrates a balanced approach to education amid a crisis.
