New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Haryana government, accusing it of discharging polluted water into the Yamuna River, asserting it was a 'plot' to sabotage the water supply in the capital.

During a press conference, the Delhi CM revealed that three water treatment plants in the city are on the verge of closure due to the influx of highly contaminated water from the Wazirabad barrage and attributed this situation to the BJP.

Criticizing the BJP, CM Atishi remarked that the party is facing a significant defeat in the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections and is resorting to such a 'reprehensible and abhorrent act' to deny the residents of clean water.

“Delhi has eight water treatment facilities, all utilizing water from the Yamuna River. The three plants -- Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla -- depend on water from the Wazirabad barrage. The BJP-governed Haryana has begun releasing industrial waste into the Yamuna to render the water treatment plants inoperative,” she stated.

“The level of pollution has escalated to the point that three treatment facilities are nearly closing down,” she added.

She specifically mentioned drain (DD8), located near Pyaau Manihari, alleging the release of water with elevated ammonia levels into the Yamuna.

Providing details on ammonia concentrations, she commented, “Typically, ammonia levels in water range from 1-2 ppm. However, as we approach elections, the levels have surged dramatically: 3.3 ppm on January 14, 4.6 ppm on January 18, 6.4 ppm on January 24, and 7.2 ppm on January 26.”

“This is toxic water being discharged by the BJP government with malicious intent. They are so distressed over their impending electoral loss that they seek to disrupt Delhi's water supply. There is no more despicable act than this,” declared the irate CM.

The Chief Minister warned that numerous regions in Delhi will be affected, including Karol Bagh, Jhnadewala, Patel Nagar, Wazirpur, Punjabi Bagh, Model Town, Kingsway Camp, Kalkaji, Batla House, and Kalindi Kunj, which will soon experience a water shortage.

Atishi also indicated that her party will approach the Election Commission to highlight the BJP's attempts to 'manipulate' the elections by disrupting Delhi's water supply.

CM Atishi's direct accusations against the BJP and the Haryana government are expected to provoke strong responses and rebuttals.
