Jammu, Sep 13 (NationPress) - Authorities in the Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Saturday that they have retrieved a drone from a village close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector.
According to officials, the drone was found in a field located in Fattu Kotli village of Akhnoor.
"An inquiry has been initiated to determine the drone's origin, whether it was sent from across the LoC or if it was a locally-operated drone used for events like weddings," officials stated.
Drones have previously been employed by terror operatives from Pakistan to deliver payloads of arms, ammunition, cash, and drugs to fuel terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The methods utilized by these operatives involve dropping payloads at locations predetermined in cooperation with local terrorist factions.
Typically, overground workers (OGWs) are used to retrieve these consignments without putting themselves in danger.
OGWs often collaborate with terrorists driven by financial incentives or to settle personal disputes, exploiting the threats posed by armed terrorists.
Jammu and Kashmir shares a 740-km long LoC and a 240-km long International Border (IB).
The Indian Army is responsible for securing the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) protects the IB.
The BSF oversees the IB in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua, while the Army manages the LoC in Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Rajouri, Poonch, and parts of Jammu district.
To combat the drone threat from across the border, the BSF has implemented specialized anti-drone technology along the IB to detect and neutralize drones in flight.
Since deploying this equipment, the frequency of drone incursions from across the IB has significantly decreased.
