New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) Three personnel from the Delhi Police, including a female sub-inspector, have been charged for soliciting bribes exceeding Rs 2 lakh from a Naraina resident and a couple in Uttam Nagar. They allegedly threatened to file false cases against the victims, according to a senior official from the Vigilance Department.
Sub-Inspector Vijeta Gautam, alongside HC Rakesh Kumar and Constable Sanjay, all stationed at the Police Station Cyber West District, Hari Nagar, have been implicated in two separate incidents filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vigilance.
The first incident stemmed from a complaint by a Naraina Village resident who claimed he was summoned by SI Vijeta and Constable Sanjay. They informed him that his Aadhaar and PAN had been misused, allegedly to open a Paytm Agent Merchant KYC account currently under investigation for irregularities.
The police officers demanded an illegal payment of Rs 50,000, threatening to implicate him in a false case if he refused.
Following an inquiry by the Vigilance Branch, the claims of harassment and bribery were substantiated, leading to a case being filed against the officers under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in conjunction with Section 61(2) of BNS, 2023.
The second case arose from a written complaint by a Uttam Nagar resident who accused the officers of demanding and accepting Rs 1.85 lakh from her and her husband to close a case regarding a fake Instagram ID registered against her spouse at PS Cyber West District.
Despite the initial payment, the officers allegedly continued to solicit more bribes.
The Vigilance Branch inquiry confirmed the claims of harassment and bribery, resulting in another case being registered at the Police Station, Vigilance, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The DCP, Vigilance, urged citizens to report any instances of police personnel demanding bribes through Helpline No. 1064.
