Agartala, Sep 4 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, emphasized on Thursday the critical role that sports and culture play in fostering a healthy society. He stated that the BJP government is dedicated to enhancing sports infrastructure across the state.
The Chief Minister made these remarks during the opening of the Yonex Sunrise North East Zone inter-state and Zonal Badminton Championship 2025, which runs until September 7 and has attracted over 200 players and officials from Tripura and other Northeastern states.
Organized by the Tripura Badminton Association at the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre Indoor Hall in Agartala, Saha described the event as a historic moment for Tripura, highlighting how sports can unite people.
He pointed out the significance of fitness, stating that physical health is essential for mental growth. “In the realm of sports, individuals discover pathways to personal development and cultivate a winner’s mindset. Early exposure to sports and a cheerful atmosphere fosters a positive mindset in children. Sports teach discipline, perseverance, responsibility, duty, and patriotism. Our government is committed to nurturing the talents of numerous promising athletes in the state,” said Saha, who is also a dental surgeon.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting sports. “The Prime Minister is boosting infrastructure development through initiatives like Khelo India to engage the youth in sports. Over the past 6-7 years, we have made considerable advancements in sports infrastructure in Tripura, with many more projects in progress. Consequently, our children are already excelling in national competitions,” he added.
In terms of progress, Saha shared that eight synthetic turf football fields have been established statewide, with another one currently under construction. The state has also completed a synthetic field for hockey, a swimming pool, and two synthetic athletic tracks located in Panisagar and Badharghat, respectively.
Moreover, Saha announced plans for a comprehensive sports complex at Bholagiri in Agartala, which will feature a gallery, an international-standard swimming pool, a natural football field, and a multipurpose sports hall.
