Tripura's CM Manik Saha Encourages Youth to Pursue Sports Alongside Education

Agartala, Feb 23 (NationPress) Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, has encouraged both students and young individuals to engage in sports alongside their educational pursuits, emphasizing that the state government is prioritizing the enhancement of sports infrastructure to elevate the overall standard of athletics within the region.
"Our government has implemented various initiatives aimed at bolstering the sports ecosystem in Tripura. A key focus has been placed on establishing modern sports facilities. Numerous advanced venues have already been constructed, paving the way for the development of athletic talent," stated the Chief Minister during the inauguration of the Tripura State Games-2026 on Sunday.
While inaugurating the event organized by the Tripura Olympic Association, CM Saha remarked that sports are vital for maintaining both physical and mental health.
The Chief Minister highlighted the central government's efforts, mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has particularly stressed the importance of integrating students and youth—one of the country's largest resource pools—into the realm of sports alongside their academic endeavors.
"Various sporting events, such as 'Khelo India', are being organized with the goal of fostering a stronger and healthier nation. The Tripura government has also introduced multiple initiatives aimed at promoting a better Tripura through sports," he added.
CM Saha noted that the introduction of State Games in Tripura marks a significant milestone and will be instrumental in identifying and nurturing sports talent throughout the state.
"The Tripura State Games serve as an excellent platform for young athletes to showcase their abilities. This initiative will not only enhance healthy competition but also cultivate a culture of discipline and excellence in sports," he expressed.
Expressing optimism that these games would inspire students and youth to participate actively in sports, CM Saha believes such initiatives will contribute to the formation of a healthier and more self-assured generation.
Present at the event were State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Bishwajit Shil, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and BJP MLA Dipak Majumdar, esteemed gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Sports Department Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, Tripura Olympic Association President Ratan Saha, and General Secretary Sujit Roy.
