Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agartala, Dec 15 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized that Divyangjan (differently-abled) athletes exemplify courage, confidence, and an unbreakable spirit, demonstrating that physical challenges do not hinder talent or success.
The Chief Minister made these remarks during the inauguration of the Khelo Tripura Para Games 2025 for Divyangjan athletes at the Badharghat Dashrath Dev Sports Complex, located just outside Agartala. Saha highlighted that being Divyang is not a setback and that success is rooted in a resilient mindset, steadfast determination, and focus.
“Consistent practice aids athletes in reaching their objectives. Sports transcend caste, religion, or color and act as a powerful vehicle for societal unity,” he noted.
The Chief Minister remarked that engaging in sports not only boosts physical capabilities but also nurtures mental resilience, discipline, and self-esteem.
“The involvement of para athletes in this event is crucial for cultivating an inclusive mindset within the community,” Saha stated.
He underscored the state's dedication to promoting inclusive sports, mentioning that the Khelo Tripura program aligns with the Khelo India initiative introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The state government prioritizes providing training facilities, adequate sports infrastructure, modern equipment, and financial assistance to para athletes,” he added.
Saha reaffirmed that politics has no place in Tripura's sports landscape.
“Now, merit is paramount, a shift from the past. The current government appreciates sports and honors athletes. Everyone faces challenges, but the key is to conquer them and progress. Physical restrictions should not be viewed as obstacles,” he remarked.
He further stated that confidence and focus are essential for achieving success in sports, emphasizing that sporting activities deter addiction while enhancing both physical and mental well-being.
The two-day games, featuring 12 events, were organized by the Social Welfare and Social Education and Sports and Youth Affairs Departments.
Present at the event were Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Secretaries P.K. Chakraborty and Tapas Roy, Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Tapan Kumar Das, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports L. Darlong, Padma Shri awardee and celebrated gymnast Dipa Karmakar, along with other dignitaries.
