Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 14 (NationPress) In a significant move, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced on Saturday that a total of 10 retail drug dealers from West Delhi are currently under scrutiny by the Drugs Control Department for breaching the Drugs Rules, 1945. Appropriate measures have been initiated against the offending firms.
The department conducted a Special Inspection and Enforcement Drive in Nangloi, Delhi, aimed at ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and quality medicines, as well as curbing unethical trade practices.
During this drive, teams inspected 12 retail drug dealers, discovering that 10 firms had violated the Drugs Rules, 1945, according to a statement.
Furthermore, 49 samples of various medicines were collected for testing and analysis to confirm adherence to established quality standards.
Some firms were found displaying unauthorized discount boards/offers, violating the provisions of the Act and Rules, which were promptly removed, and the firms were instructed to follow the regulations strictly.
The Health Minister stated, “The Delhi government is dedicated to safeguarding citizens from spurious and substandard medicines. No counterfeit medications will be permitted for sale in Delhi, and enforcement will be intensified whenever violations are detected.”
The Health Department maintains rigorous regulatory oversight to protect public health and uphold ethical pharmaceutical practices throughout the National Capital.
Additionally, the Drugs Control Department has been proactively conducting special inspections across the National Capital Territory to enhance regulatory oversight of lifesaving anti-cancer medicines, ensuring protection for vulnerable patients undergoing critical treatments.
Last week, a government initiative aimed at assessing the quality of anti-cancer medications revealed that six firms were violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules.
The inspections targeting counterfeit or substandard medicines have spanned areas including Laxmi Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Green Park, Okhla Industrial Area, Paschim Vihar, Dwarka, and Rohini.
Multiple teams from the Drugs Control Department conducted inspections at 25 retail and wholesale establishments dealing in anti-cancer drugs across vital areas of the city, especially around major hospital clusters and pharmaceutical markets in East, South, West, and North-West Delhi.
