Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, unveiled the ‘Delhi LakhpatiBitiya Yojana’ on Tuesday, marking a significant upgrade to the Ladli Scheme initiated in 2008. This new initiative aims to provide both financial stability and continuous educational opportunities for girls belonging to economically disadvantaged families after more than fifteen years of the original scheme.
The primary objective of this program is to ensure that no girl in Delhi has to abandon her education due to financial hurdles. It aims to create a long-term savings fund that matures as she reaches important educational milestones.
Under the revamped scheme, financial aid of up to Rs 56,000 will be made available to each beneficiary, disbursed in phased installments based on educational and age milestones, starting from birth and extending through graduation or diploma completion.
The funds, invested through a structured financial mechanism, will appreciate over time and be directly deposited into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account upon maturity, as per an official statement.
The eligibility criteria for the Delhi LakhpatiBitiya Yojana have seen slight modifications from the previous Ladli Scheme. It is applicable to girls born in Delhi, whose families have resided in the city for a minimum of three years, with an annual income not exceeding Rs 1.20 lakh.
Benefits are capped at two surviving daughters per family. Enrollment in the scheme can occur within one year of birth or at subsequent stages such as admission to Class I, VI, IX, XI, or when entering a recognized graduation or diploma program.
The Chief Minister expressed, “This initiative is particularly dear to me. It underscores our commitment to ensure that every girl, every daughter of Delhi, has the chance to realize her full potential. This is an investment in the future of our girls and, by extension, the future of our nation.”
“As girls achieve educational milestones, we will deposit up to Rs 56,000 directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, which will mature to over Rs 1 lakh with interest,” she added.
She highlighted that upon assuming office, the government discovered a substantial number of maturity accounts that had remained unclaimed.
“Over 1.86 lakh maturity accounts were found unclaimed, indicating that funds intended for our daughters had not been disbursed timely,” stated the Chief Minister.
Addressing this overdue issue, she noted that the Delhi Government has taken decisive steps to guarantee these funds reach their rightful recipients.
“Earlier in 2025, we identified 30,000 beneficiaries, and Rs 90 crore in unclaimed funds has already been disbursed. Additionally, we have identified another 41,000 beneficiaries, and Rs 100 crore will be released to them shortly,” she mentioned.
“In total, Rs 190 crore, which rightfully belongs to these girls, is being ensured and delivered to them,” the Chief Minister concluded.
She further announced that the scheme, reflecting a strengthened vision and long-term impact, will now be termed “LakhpatiBitiya Yojana.”
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and future of every girl child in Delhi, ensuring no beneficiary is deprived of her legitimate entitlements.
