Detection of Bird Flu Virus in Deceased Crane in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Dec 21 (NationPress) Bird flu has been identified in Rajasthan’s Phalodi district, following the confirmation of the virus in a deceased demoiselle crane (Kurja) found in Khichan village.
The viscera of the crane were sent for examination to the High-Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal (MP) on December 19, with test results received on December 21 confirming the presence of the virus.
This announcement has raised alarms within the local administration and forest department, as the virus poses a potential threat to other bird species. To date, seven cranes have succumbed to the infection in the Khichan area.
In light of this outbreak, Collector HL Atal has directed all relevant departments to maintain vigilance. A joint meeting was held involving representatives from Animal Husbandry, Forest, Police, Industry, and Medical and Health departments, where officials were encouraged to implement preventive strategies, safeguard the public, and conduct surveys to track the disease spread.
The Animal Husbandry Department has established a Rapid Response Team, while the Forest Department has initiated monitoring and survey teams. Vigilant surveillance is currently taking place in areas frequented by the cranes. Local authorities have also requested the public to refrain from visiting crane migration sites.
In compliance with the collector’s directives, a team of forest personnel has been deployed at the resting locations of the Kurja birds.
