New Delhi, June 8 (NationPress) In response to misinformation regarding the Maharashtra elections, insiders from the Election Commission revealed a nine-point rebuttal to accusations made by the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. They emphasized that his concerns could only be addressed formally after he reaches out to the poll panel.

Election Commission insiders criticized Gandhi and the Congress party for engaging in sensationalism through misinformation, while they allegedly exhibited cold feet when invited to discuss their concerns about purported electoral fraud.

Addressing Gandhi's claims of “match-fixing” in the upcoming November 2024 Maharashtra elections, the EC sources noted that these issues could have been raised directly with the officials when the invitation was extended.

“Like all other national parties, when the INC was invited to meet the Commission on May 15, 2025, it developed cold feet and requested additional time,” stated an EC insider.

Indicating that Gandhi's newspaper article cannot be regarded as a formal complaint, an insider remarked: “It’s puzzling that Rahul Gandhi asserts that the issues he raises are critical, yet hesitates to document them for the Election Commission.”

“According to procedure, it is public record that any Constitutional body, including the ECI, will respond formally only when Rahul Gandhi submits a letter,” they added.

“It’s quite odd that even after 24 hours, Rahul Gandhi has neither sent a letter to the ECI nor requested a meeting,” the insider commented.

Gandhi ignited a political controversy by alleging discrepancies in the electoral rolls, inflated voter turnout, and targeted bogus voting, leading to the Congress and its allies securing only 46 out of 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra.

He further accused the EC of being evasive and demanded the publication of digital voter rolls from recent elections, including those for the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly, as well as the release of CCTV footage from polling booths after 5 p.m. on voting day.

In response to the demand for CCTV footage, the EC panel stated, “As per ECI guidelines, the CCTV footage of polling stations can be scrutinized by the competent High Court in any Election Petition.”

The restrictions on sharing footage are in place to safeguard the integrity of elections and to protect voter privacy.

“Why does Rahul Gandhi, either personally or through his representatives, wish to infringe on voters’ privacy, which is upheld by ECI under electoral laws? Does he not trust the high courts anymore?” questioned an EC insider familiar with the situation.

According to EC sources, by accusing others of wrongdoing in the electoral rolls, the Congress leader has indirectly criticized his own party’s Booth Level Agents, Polling, and Counting Agents, while also pointing fingers at countless polling officials assigned by the poll panel.

Commenting on the alleged disrespect shown by the Congress leader towards diligent poll officials, the EC insider noted: “The 10.5 lakh Booth Level Officers, 50 lakh Polling Officers, and 1 lakh Counting Supervisors appointed by the Commission nationwide are also quite upset with Rahul Gandhi due to these unfounded allegations against their integrity and hard work.”

Point of View

It's crucial to maintain a balanced view on the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi while also highlighting the Election Commission's insistence on following due process. The integrity of the electoral process must be upheld, and both parties should engage constructively to address legitimate concerns without resorting to sensationalism.
