Mumbai, February 27 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reaffirmed his commitment to evolve the prestigious Marathi language into a medium of knowledge, ensuring this cultural treasure is passed down to future generations.

“Historical evidence indicates that languages recognized as Jnanbhasha (languages of knowledge) are those that thrive globally. A language that fosters commerce and creates job opportunities ignites a sense of advancement,” he remarked during a special event at the Central Hall of Vidhan Bhavan, celebrating Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din.

Fadnavis highlighted that during his reign, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj initiated the creation of a dictionary aimed at refining the Marathi language, which at that time was significantly influenced by Persian and Arabic dialects.

“Maharaj undertook the noble effort of purifying the language, and the true pride of Marathi begins with his legacy,” he stated.

He further emphasized that ancient texts illustrate how refined our language has been since its origins.

Furthermore, he pointed out that legislative discussions in Maharashtra serve as a fountain of literary inspiration, generating concepts for numerous films and theatrical productions.

Fadnavis also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring 'Abhijat' (Classical) status upon Marathi, thereby granting it esteemed recognition.

He urged all individuals to ensure that Marathi literature and folk traditions reach a broad audience.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde acknowledged PM Modi's role in achieving the Classical status for Marathi, which he believes will greatly enhance its development. He called for the widespread use of Marathi across various professional domains and advocated for its prominence on the global stage.

Deputy Chief Sunetra Pawar urged for the increased integration of Marathi on digital platforms in today's technological era. She asserted that incorporating Marathi into digital media would effectively transmit this rich heritage to younger generations.

Additionally, she announced the allocation of ₹5 crore for the proposed Maharashtra Bhavan in London, envisioned as a cultural center.

She also noted that funding for public libraries has been increased to promote the language further.

Sunetra expressed that the Classical status marks a significant milestone and will play a vital role in establishing Marathi as a language for livelihood and prosperity.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar conveyed optimism that advancements in technology and research must be pursued in Marathi for the language to flourish as a medium of knowledge.

“Only through such efforts will Marathi truly become a language of knowledge. Marathi ranks as one of the 22 official languages of India, being the third most populous language in the country and the tenth globally,” he remarked.

He underscored the collective responsibility of all to safeguard this rich cultural legacy for future generations.
