New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday reflected on the traumatic events of the Emergency, during which millions faced imprisonment, and urged the younger generation that a recurrence of such a constitutional crisis can only be averted through strong democratic foundations.

Speaking to students from the Northeast involved in the Rashtriya Ekatmata Yatra 2025 and winners of the Mann Ki Baat Quiz Competition (Season 4), Jagdeep Dhankhar remarked: "Our Constitution was undermined during the Emergency. Citizens were stripped of their Fundamental Rights, and millions were incarcerated.

"For you, this may seem like history, but it's crucial to understand the dangers we have faced. We must ensure that our democratic roots are nurtured, which occurs through interaction, communication, and opportunities for meaningful dialogue," he emphasized, encouraging the youth to observe Samvidhan Hatya Divas on June 25 – the date on which the Emergency was declared in 1975.

The Vice President also acknowledged the positive outcomes from the Prime Minister’s radio program, Mann Ki Baat.

“The impact of Mann Ki Baat on the ground is remarkable; it serves as an excellent learning platform for young individuals, politicians, bureaucrats, and entrepreneurs. The Mann Ki Baat initiative is both motivational and highly informative,” he stated.

"I encourage every young person to delve into past episodes of Mann Ki Baat; it will enhance your knowledge and instill a sense of nationalism. You will be inspired to prioritize the nation," he added.

Jagdeep Dhankhar noted that when Mann Ki Baat was first introduced, its potential was not fully appreciated.

“Now, audiences eagerly await Mann Ki Baat, which has transcended politics. It has evolved into a significant platform for connecting with the country's executive leader, marking a historical moment as the Prime Minister has achieved three consecutive terms, a feat not seen since Pandit Nehru,” he remarked.

The Vice President commended the government for prioritizing the Northeast and advocated for boosting tourism in the area.

“I have witnessed the rich culture, diverse cuisine, tribal traditions, and the immense talent present. These states are treasure troves for tourism, filled with cultural richness and variety. We must commit to travel East and welcome visitors from the region,” he stated.

Currently, the number of tourists visiting the Northeast each year has exceeded 1.25 crore.
