Bengaluru, Sep 5 (NationPress) The Congress-led Karnataka government is facing criticism from the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its lenient stance towards YouTuber Sameer, who has been accused of spreading false propaganda against the temple authorities of Dharmasthala in Mangaluru concerning an alleged mass grave case. BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed concern over the absence of a bail cancellation appeal against Sameer.
During a press conference on Thursday, Vijayendra stated, "The BJP stands united with the millions of devotees of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala. We urge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to refrain from testing the patience of these devotees."
"If the Congress government is genuinely committed, why is it silent on the bail granted to YouTuber Sameer? If you are sincere, why haven’t you filed for his bail cancellation?" he questioned.
He also reflected on whether the BJP erred by remaining quiet about the alleged Dharmasthala case while advocating for a thorough investigation.
"What is preventing the (Congress) government from pursuing Sameer's bail cancellation?" he reiterated.
Vijayendra accused the state government of failing to detain Sameer, labeling him a traitor.
He further questioned why the Karnataka government hasn't taken steps to revoke Sameer's bail.
Responding to a query from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he stated, "To counter the propaganda against Dharmasthala, we organized the 'Dharmasthala Chalo' march."
"Due to the false information being circulated, countless devotees of Lord Manjunath Swamy have suffered. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) inquiry is lagging, causing distress among devotees. In light of these issues, we initiated the 'Dharmasthala Chalo' march, which saw over one lakh participants from every district and Assembly constituency, including numerous Hindu activists," BJP leader Vijayendra elaborated.
"When the Soujanya case emerged, I felt it was necessary to meet her family. Despite the brutal murder occurring 12 years ago, I visited them to express my condolences and assured them that if the matter escalates to the Supreme Court, we will cover the legal costs," he added in response to another question.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Belthangady police searched YouTuber Sameer's home and confiscated critical documents.
YouTuber M.D. Sameer faces allegations of disseminating false information about the Dharmasthala temple and inciting public unrest.
Police conducted a thorough inspection of Sameer's rented residence in Royal Residency Layout in Bengaluru's Electronics City.
The police, along with forensic experts, conducted a 'mahazar' at Sameer's property, uncovering evidence including the site where the Dharmasthala AI audio was produced, along with various electronic devices, apps, laptops, computers, hard drives, mobile phones, and other materials, all seized in the presence of witnesses.
Sameer had previously been granted bail regarding the alleged Dharmasthala case and is currently under investigation.
