DIG Responds to Viral Video of Police Officer's Conception Advice to Schoolgirls

Bhopal, Jan 11 (NationPress) A video showcasing a senior female police officer in Madhya Pradesh giving recommendations to teenage schoolgirls about the dos and don'ts for having bright babies has gained widespread attention and criticism. Nevertheless, the officer has remained composed amidst the controversy, asserting that the shared video clip “lacks context.”
The advice was delivered by a senior officer holding the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) during an awareness initiative in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh.
The issue gained traction after the video circulated on social media, featuring DIG Savita Sohane discussing 'conception' in a classroom setting.
In her conversation with the female students at a government higher secondary school, Sohane provided specific recommendations regarding conception.
"Do not conceive on Purnima. Bow before the Sun and offer water in salutation to ensure the birth of 'ojaswi' (bright) offspring," Shahdol DIG Savita Sohane was heard saying.
The unmarried DIG also addressed the importance of planning for future generations, questioning, "How will you bring a new generation to Earth?"
Sohane shared this counsel with the students during the 'Mai Hun Abhimanyu' program initiated by the Madhya Pradesh government.
The campaign 'Mai Hun Abhimanyu' aims to combat crimes against women and children and foster a secure environment for them.
This initiative includes collaboration between school administrations and local police to organize various programs that enhance awareness about women’s safety.
Activities under the campaign encompass panel discussions, community engagement, and guest lectures.
Following the video's viral spread, Sohane informed the media that she often speaks at schools as part of the 'Mai Hoon Abhimanyu' initiative, designed to create a safe environment while promoting respect for girls.
She elaborated that her lecture was influenced by her personal spiritual practices, including reading scriptures and attending sermons.
Regarding her comments on avoiding conception during a full moon, she highlighted its importance as a sacred time in Hinduism.
Sohane, who has a background in teaching at a government school prior to joining the police force over 31 years ago, stressed that her hour-long discussion focused on respecting girls, especially in light of the rising incidents of crimes against women and children.
She firmly believes that the circulated video clip does not capture the full context of her message.
