Bhopal, Aug 8 (NationPress) In a surprising display of camaraderie, former cabinet and party colleagues turned political opponents, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, walked side by side during an event in Bhopal on Friday. The event marked the inauguration of a new co-educational British boarding school in the city.
As Singh approached the stage, Scindia warmly greeted him, and the two rivals proceeded to walk together, showcasing a moment of unity amidst their long-standing political rivalry.
Both hail from influential royal families with historical ties, and their political rivalry traces back to Singh's tenure as chief minister from 1993 to 2003, coinciding with the factional presence of Madhavrao Scindia, Jyotiraditya's father, in Madhya Pradesh politics.
After the untimely death of Madhavrao Scindia in 2002, his son Jyotiraditya entered politics by contesting the Guna Lok Sabha seat. Despite their previous collaborations during the UPA government, tensions rose when a faction of Congress MLAs loyal to Scindia defected to the BJP in March 2020, leading to the collapse of the Congress government under Kamal Nath.
While Jyotiraditya Scindia faced setbacks in the 2019 elections, he remains a Union Minister under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, having recently reclaimed the Guna seat in 2024. In contrast, Digvijaya Singh, despite his efforts in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal and Rajgarh, has not secured a victory.
