Director Blessy Overjoyed as ‘The Goat Life’ Makes Final Oscar Nomination List

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 7 (NationPress) Renowned director Blessy is overjoyed after the announcement that his groundbreaking film, The Goat Life -- recognized as the largest desert film in the country -- has reached the final shortlist for nominations at the 97th Academy Awards.

The film is vying for a nomination in the Best Film category, with hopes of making it into the top 10 finalists to advance to the final nominations.

In a conversation with IANS, Blessy expressed his enthusiasm. He mentioned, “This is extraordinary news for everyone who contributed to this project. Just making it to this shortlist is an accomplishment by itself. We started showcasing the film for Academy members in both the US and Europe last November, conducting 15 screenings in Los Angeles alone.”

Blessy further stated, “The enthusiastic feedback we received during the screenings was gratifying. Voting starts tomorrow and will last for a week. No matter what the outcome is, being acknowledged at this level is a significant honor for all involved.”

The Goat Life has already made headlines by achieving record-breaking success, amassing Rs 100 crore within just nine days of its release. The film debuted on 1,720 screens globally last year.

Blessy shared that the film's concept has been in his mind for the past 17 years, although production was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Produced by Visual Romance, The Goat Life features a remarkable cast that includes Prithviraj, Hollywood star Jimmy Jean-Louis, Indian actors Amala Paul and K.R. Gokul, along with esteemed Arab actors Talib al Balushi and Rik Aby.

The film’s music and sound design have been created by Academy Award winners A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookutty, adding to its international allure.

The narrative centers around an Indian man who travels to Saudi Arabia in search of work, only to find himself compelled to work as a goat herder in the isolated desert without pay.
