Chennai, May 3 (NationPress) The ruling DMK of Tamil Nadu has vehemently criticized the BJP-led Union government for allegedly exploiting central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to engage in vendetta politics.
During a meeting of district secretaries, overseen by DMK President and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the party passed a resolution asserting that the Union government has established an “undeclared Emergency” through its misuse of power.
“This gathering of district secretaries firmly denounces the Union BJP government, which is fostering an undeclared Emergency,” the resolution indicated, highlighting a trend of political intimidation via raids conducted by the Income Tax Department and the ED, particularly in opposition-led states like Tamil Nadu.
The DMK further accused the Centre of compromising the autonomy of essential institutions, including the judiciary.
The party claimed that agencies such as the CBI, ED, and the tax department, which are supposed to function impartially, have morphed into instruments of political reprisal under the BJP regime. Reports suggest that courts have criticized the misuse of these agencies.
The DMK alleged that the BJP government utilized its agencies to coerce political adversaries into forming alliances, notably with the AIADMK, which has recently partnered with the BJP. The resolution referenced instances where the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court have reportedly admonished the operations of these central agencies in corruption-related matters.
Reaffirming its position, the DMK declared it would confront all actions against its leaders from central agencies with “courage and legal resolve.” The party also committed to revealing the BJP’s alleged abuse of power to the public and aims to defeat the saffron party and its allies in the forthcoming elections.
Senior DMK figures, including K. Ponmudy and V. Senthil Balaji, are currently under the scrutiny of the ED in relation to various cases. With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching in a year, the DMK has initiated its preparations, aiming to secure 200 out of 234 seats in the 2026 polls.
