Is DMK Ready to Unveil Its 2026 Assembly Election Strategy at the General Council Meeting on June 1?

Chennai, May 21 (NationPress) The ruling DMK is preparing for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, aiming to secure 200 out of 234 seats. In a bid to lay the groundwork, the party will present a detailed election work plan during its General Council meeting set for June 1 in Madurai.

While an official statement is forthcoming, insiders reveal that the DMK leadership has appointed eight senior leaders as regional in-charges to manage election-related initiatives across the state. These leaders are tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including the coordination of preparatory efforts, evaluation of grassroots dynamics, and resolution of internal conflicts among local members.

The state has been segmented into eight regions, each overseen by a prominent party leader with significant influence.

A. Raja, former Union Minister and Deputy General Secretary, will oversee the Chennai region. The southern districts are divided between Deputy General Secretary and MP Kanimozhi and Minister Thangam Thennarasu, each responsible for distinct areas.

Minister R. Sakkarapani is in charge of the regions encompassing Madurai, Dindigul, and Theni.

Former Minister V. Senthil Balaji is responsible for the Coimbatore region.

The delta and central districts fall under the jurisdiction of Principal Secretary and Minister K.N. Nehru. Ministers E.V. Velu and M.R.K. Panneerselvam will manage the northern districts.

Sources suggest that the precise delineation of regions and their respective districts will be confirmed and officially announced at the General Council meeting in Madurai.

Meanwhile, the regional in-charges have initiated groundwork in their designated areas. They are engaging with local leaders, including district secretaries, MLAs, and ministers, and are actively tackling issues such as factionalism and disputes among party members.

The party has established a five-member high-level committee, featuring Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, to address more serious or unresolved internal matters.

Meetings between regional in-charges and district-level officials have been held with this committee at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, with discussions reportedly centered on districts supervised by Thangam Thennarasu and K.N. Nehru. These consultative meetings are expected to persist in the coming days.

According to insiders, these discussions serve two major purposes: first, to resolve internal party conflicts well ahead of the election process, and second, to ensure the timely and effective execution of the party’s election strategy.

With less than a year remaining until the 2026 elections, the DMK is leaving no stone unturned to orchestrate a seamless and coordinated campaign across the state, striving for a decisive mandate for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and a second consecutive term in office.
