New Delhi, Aug 19 (NationPress) The National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval engaged in discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Tuesday, initiating a new round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue centered on the boundary issue.
Wang Yi arrived in India late Monday for a two-day visit.
During the meetings, both parties are expected to explore a variety of significant topics, including the border situation, trade, and the resumption of flight services.
The Chinese foreign ministry indicated that Wang Yi's visit aims to facilitate collaborative efforts between the two nations to implement the agreements reached last year by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
When questioned about China's expectations regarding Wang Yi's visit and the 24th Round of Talks between the Special Representatives of China and India on the boundary issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed China's readiness to leverage this opportunity to enhance political mutual trust, manage differences effectively, and promote the stable development of China-India relations.
Prior to the meeting with NSA Doval, Wang Yi met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar. EAM Jaishankar stressed the necessity of advancing the de-escalation process, asserting that the foundation for any momentum in India-China relations is the ability to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas.
“Your Excellency will indeed discuss border matters with our Special Representative, NSA Ajit Doval, tomorrow. This discussion is crucial, as our ability to maintain peace in these areas serves as the basis for positive momentum in our relationship,” Jaishankar remarked during his opening comments to Wang Yi in New Delhi.
Also present were Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other officials. This meeting occurred shortly after Wang Yi's arrival in the Indian capital.
Jaishankar highlighted the natural tendency for the world’s two largest nations to discuss the international landscape, advocating for a fair and multi-polar world order, including a multi-polar Asia. He emphasized that maintaining global economic stability and combating terrorism are critical priorities.
He noted that the meeting allows both countries to review bilateral ties and discuss global situations of mutual interest.
Discussions are expected to encompass economic and trade issues, people-to-people contacts, river data sharing, border trade, connectivity, and bilateral exchanges.
“Having navigated a challenging phase in our relationship, Excellency, our two nations now aim to move forward. Achieving this requires a candid and constructive approach from both sides, guided by three principles — mutual respect, sensitivity, and interest. Our discussions today will also address specific concerns I raised during my visit to China in July,” the EAM stated.
India has collaborated closely with China during its ongoing presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). With the upcoming SCO Summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, which Prime Minister Modi will attend, EAM Jaishankar wished Wang Yi fruitful outcomes at the summit.
“Overall, we hope that our discussions will contribute to fostering a stable, cooperative, and forward-looking relationship between India and China, addressing our mutual interests and concerns,” the EAM concluded.
