New Delhi, Aug 18 (NationPress) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has landed in New Delhi on Monday for a two-day official trip. During his visit, he will engage in a new round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue concerning the boundary issue with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In an announcement made on X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "A warm welcome to FM Mr. Wang Yi of China upon his arrival in New Delhi for an official engagement. Significant discussions are planned regarding the India-China Special Representatives and bilateral relations over the upcoming two days."
On the same day, China's Foreign Ministry emphasized that Wang Yi's visit to India aims to facilitate collaboration in executing the consensus achieved between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
When inquired about China's expectations for Wang Yi's visit and the 24th Round of Talks between the Special Representatives of China and India regarding the boundary issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning expressed that China looks forward to utilizing this visit to work alongside India in implementing crucial agreements made by the two nations' leaders. The goal is to sustain high-level exchanges, build political trust, enhance practical cooperation, manage differences effectively, and foster the stable development of China-India relations, according to the statements made by Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong on X during a regular media briefing in Beijing.
The discussions may cover various significant topics, including the border situation, trade, and the resumption of flight services.
The Chinese Foreign Minister is set to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and will also visit Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday. This meeting holds particular importance as it precedes PM Modi's upcoming trip to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin later this month.
This will mark PM Modi's first visit to China since the Galwan clash in 2020, which significantly strained bilateral relations. The breakthrough discussions following the Galwan Valley faceoff in June 2020 were made possible after India and China reached an agreement on patrolling along the approximately 3500-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) to resolve the prolonged border confrontation.
In July, EAM Jaishankar traveled to China to participate in the SCO Meeting of Foreign Ministers in Tianjin and held discussions with his Chinese counterpart and Xi Jinping.
Earlier in June, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited China to attend the SCO Defence Ministers Meeting but refrained from endorsing the joint declaration, citing the lack of attention to terrorism as a primary concern.
During his visit, Singh met with his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Don Jun, and they shared a "constructive and forward-looking exchange of views" on bilateral issues.
Furthermore, NSA Ajit Doval visited China in June for the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries, emphasizing the necessity of avoiding double standards in the fight against terrorism and urging decisive actions against UN-listed terrorists and organizations like LeT and JeM.
