Bareilly, Nov 18 (NationPress) Following the recent Delhi explosion, a self-recorded clip featuring Dr. Umar Mohammad, the driver of the i20 car, has emerged in which he attempts to rationalize his actions, labeling it as a “martyrdom operation.”
In reaction, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, stated on Tuesday that such justifications contradict the fundamental teachings of Islam.
In an interview with IANS, Maulana Shahabuddin remarked, “Dr. Umar Mohammad, linked to terrorism and who took his own life, is accused in this case. The emergence of his video, in which he tries to rationalize suicide bombing, is against the core tenets of Islam. This is entirely incorrect and cannot be endorsed by anyone.”
He continued, “Terrorism is incompatible with Islam. The religion does not condone killing, as the Quran clearly states that taking the life of one individual is akin to taking the life of all humanity. Dr. Umar has transgressed this fundamental principle. What he has engaged in is completely against the foundational beliefs of Islam. Islam forbids self-harm, killing others, or inciting such actions. It promotes humanity and peace, and such actions are considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.”
Earlier in the day, in a video laden with a strong accent, Dr. Umar attempts to establish a religious context for his terror plot.
He claims, “One of the most misunderstood concepts is that of suicide bombing; it is a martyrdom operation, as recognized in Islam... There have been numerous contradictions and arguments against it - martyrdom operation.”
He further elaborated that “martyrdom operation” is defined as “when an individual believes they are certain to die at a specific place and time.”
His video illustrates a mindset geared towards suicide bombing, suggesting he had planned a large-scale terrorist operation.
Sources indicate that officials suspect Dr. Umar, one of the primary accused in the terror module, produced this video to manipulate and influence others.
The car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station on November 10 resulted in the death of at least 13 individuals and injured numerous others. Dr. Umar was the driver of the vehicle, and he is a doctor affiliated with Faridabad's Al Falah University.
Originating from Koil village in Pulwama, Dr. Umar's family has characterized him as reserved and introverted, often preferring solitude and dedicating much time to reading.
However, police records show that Dr. Umar's behavior had changed significantly in the past few months. He had been absent from his university obligations since October 30 and began making frequent trips between Faridabad and Delhi, visiting mosques near Ramleela Maidan and Sunehri Masjid.
Authorities reported that he disappeared on November 9, following police raids in Faridabad that led to the confiscation of approximately 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a storage facility, along with the arrest of several of his associates.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Umar and Dr. Muzammil, who was apprehended after law enforcement dismantled the terror network, had traveled to Turkey, where it is believed their handlers are located.
