New Delhi, Nov 20 (NationPress) The BJP has launched a fierce critique against Congress MP Imran Masood and PDP leader Iltija Mufti following their remarks on the viral video featuring Dr. Umar Muhammad, who is accused in the Delhi blast. In the video, he attempts to rationalize suicide bombings as a 'martyrdom operation' as defined in Islam.
In response, Masood refuted this assertion, stating that suicide bombings are 'haram' in Islam and suggested that Umar's actions were a result of being a 'misguided youth'.
Mufti expressed her personal distress over the video, particularly as a Kashmiri, highlighting it as a reflection of the escalating cycle of violence and alienation, cautioning that such visuals indicate deeper societal divisions that are being ignored.
She pointed out that while 'right-wing groups amplify' such content, the root issues remain unaddressed by authorities.
The BJP's backlash was swift, accusing the two leaders of attempting to 'justify' an attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals and numerous injuries.
Criticizing the comments, BJP national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated to IANS, 'Certain proxy groups in Pakistan consistently align themselves with Pakistan and its terrorism. Their discomfort becomes clear whenever actions are taken against terrorists. They seem 'wounded' whenever there is turmoil in Karachi.'
Furthermore, he remarked that the demand for 'evidence' by Pakistan following terrorist actions against Indian security forces is part of their long-standing strategy.
BJP leader Pratul Shah Deo also condemned the remarks from Mufti and Masood, asserting, 'They should feel ashamed. Umar is a terrorist, not a misguided youth.' He added, 'If you consider such terrorists as misguided youth, then this country is not suitable for you.'
The Samajwadi Party has distanced itself from the statements made by Masood and Mufti, emphasizing the need for political unity against terrorism.
SP spokesperson Abbas Haider stated to IANS, 'No political party should make unnecessary statements on such matters. It is clear that all 140 crore citizens of this country, regardless of their religion or community, stand united against terrorism.'
He further remarked that everyone desires terrorism to be eradicated from its roots, an area where the government has failed, yet they support the government's stance on terrorism and its resolution.
