New Delhi, Nov 20 (NationPress) The BJP has strongly criticized Congress MP Imran Masood and Iltija Mufti, a leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), following their remarks regarding the viral footage of Dr Umar Muhammad, the suspect in the Delhi blast. In the video, Umar attempts to rationalize suicide bombings as a form of “martyrdom operation” as understood in Islam.
Masood rebutted this assertion, declaring that suicide attacks are “haram” in Islam and suggested that Umar was merely a “misguided youth” responsible for the Red Fort car explosion.
Mufti expressed her personal distress over the video, highlighting her reflections as a Kashmiri on the escalating cycle of violence and alienation. She cautioned that such visuals indicate deeper societal fractures that are being ignored. She noted that while “right-wing groups amplify” these videos, the core issues remain unresolved by authorities.
The BJP responded fiercely, accusing the two leaders of attempting to “justify” an attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals and left numerous others injured.
BJP national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi criticized the leaders, claiming they align with proxy groups in Pakistan that advocate terrorism. He stated, “Whenever our security forces take action against terrorists, their discomfort becomes apparent.”
BJP leader Pratul Shah Deo also condemned the comments made by Mufti and Masood, asserting that calling Umar a “misguided youth” discredits the gravity of his actions. He urged them to reconsider their stance, stating, “If you wish to guide him on the ‘right path’, perhaps Pakistan would be more suitable.”
The Samajwadi Party distanced itself from the remarks made by Masood and Mufti, emphasizing the importance of political unity against terrorism. SP spokesperson Abbas Haider remarked, “All citizens, regardless of religion or community, stand united against terrorism.”
He added that while the government has yet to eradicate terrorism completely, they remain committed to supporting efforts to eliminate it.
