New Delhi, Oct 30 (NationPress) In a significant stride for the Gaganyaan mission, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) announced on Thursday its successful development and testing of specialized food and parachute systems intended for the Gaganyatris.
The Gaganyaan mission, which marks India’s inaugural human spaceflight, is slated for launch in 2027. This mission aims to transport astronauts to low Earth orbit for a three-day journey, ensuring their safe return to Earth.
During an interaction with IANS at the DRDO Industry Synergy Meet in Bengaluru, Dr. B.K. Das, Director General of Electronics and Communication at DRDO, shared insights on the organization’s expansion into the space sector, partnering with ISRO alongside its traditional focus on defense.
“Numerous initiatives are currently underway for the Gaganyaan mission at DRDO. We have developed the necessary specialized food and parachute systems. Additionally, we have established technologies tailored for astronauts, relying on our unique products,” stated Das.
He emphasized that DRDO is committed to ensuring that technologies created for the armed forces are also applicable to ISRO programs.
“Many of the technologies have been developed and tested in collaboration with ISRO,” he noted.
Dr. Das also remarked that the first two phases of tests conducted in both laboratories and external environments yielded excellent results.
“Both ISRO and DRDO have expressed satisfaction with the tests, although additional work remains to be completed soon,” he added.
“Rest assured, DRDO plays a crucial role in the Gaganyaan program, and we are eager to contribute further to ISRO’s efforts,” Dr. Das assured IANS.
Earlier this week, ISRO Chief Dr. V. Narayanan also discussed the Gaganyaan mission, detailing the progress achieved in India’s first human spaceflight endeavor.
Narayanan indicated that development for the Gaganyaan Mission is nearing completion, with approximately 85 to 90 percent of subsystem activities finalized.
“We are now engaging in integrated testing and software validation. Before the crewed flight, three uncrewed missions will be launched to guarantee safety and system reliability,” the ISRO Chief informed IANS.
