Bhopal, Aug 18 (NationPress) In a significant operation against narcotics trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled an illicit drug production facility located in Bhopal's Jagdishpur (Islamnagar). Authorities seized 61.20 kg of Mephedrone (MD) and 541.53 kg of raw chemicals, amounting to a staggering Rs 92 crore in the illegal market.

The operation, dubbed “Crystal Break”, resulted in the apprehension of seven pivotal figures associated with an international drug syndicate.

This hidden factory, fortified and operating in secrecy, was raided on August 16. DRI officials discovered two individuals, including a chemist, in the act of manufacturing Mephedrone, a synthetic psychotropic substance prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

This drug, known for its cocaine-like effects, is increasingly being abused among youth, posing a significant threat to public health. The confiscated raw materials included Methylene Dichloride, Acetone, Monomethylamine (MMA), Hydrochloric Acid, and 2-Bromo, alongside advanced processing equipment.

Investigations indicated that the operation was overseen by Salim Dola, an international drug lord believed to have connections with Dawood Ibrahim's network. Dola, who is currently based in Turkey, allegedly managed the supply of chemicals and funds through hawala channels from Surat and Mumbai.

Simultaneous operations were executed across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

A cartel member responsible for supplying raw materials from Bhiwandi to Bhopal was arrested in Basti, UP. Furthermore, two chemical suppliers and a transporter were apprehended in Mumbai, while a hawala operator was detained in Surat.

This marks the sixth mephedrone factory dismantled by the DRI within the past year, following similar actions in Nagpur and Latur.

Officials revealed that the syndicate had funneled over 400 kg of raw materials into the Bhopal unit between March and July 2025. This bust highlights the increasing sophistication of drug cartels operating in India and emphasizes the urgent need for collaborative enforcement efforts.

DRI officials are committed to enhancing surveillance and inter-agency cooperation to eradicate such networks at their roots.

Point of View

The recent DRI operation in Bhopal underscores the persistent threat posed by drug cartels. Their sophisticated methods and international connections demand a comprehensive response from law enforcement agencies. As the DRI enhances its capabilities, it's crucial for the nation to remain vigilant and proactive in tackling this growing menace.
