New Delhi, Nov 15 (NationPress) In a significant operation, five individuals were apprehended, and chemicals valued at crores of rupees were confiscated by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) along with Rajasthan Police in a coordinated effort to dismantle an illicit lab located in a secluded village within the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, an official reported on Saturday.

The seized materials were adequate for producing approximately 100 kilograms of Mephedrone, which could potentially generate profits up to Rs 40 crore, according to the official statement.

The operation led to the arrest of the mastermind along with four accomplices involved in the production of Mephedrone, a psychotropic substance gaining traction in states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

On November 6, the Sirohi Police discovered drums and packets containing various chemicals and laboratory apparatus in a remote farmhouse situated at Daantrai Village in Sirohi district.

Upon receiving the information, NCB officers from Jodhpur promptly arrived at the scene and identified clear indicators of an illicit lab.

A team from the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, was summoned for analysis, confirming the presence of precursors associated with the lab equipment retrieved from the site.

During the course of the investigation, the key individuals running the lab were pinpointed, resulting in the arrest of five suspects from different areas across Rajasthan and Gujarat, aided by the NCB and Rajasthan Police.

The alleged mastermind, Vala Ram, a resident of Jalore district in Rajasthan, was taken into custody. Interrogation revealed that he, a university graduate, turned to Mephedrone production for quick financial gains after failing various examinations, including the Civil Services Exam.

Vala Ram leased the farmhouse under his associate Bhura Ram's name, who resides in Dhantrai village of Baltora district. He utilized virtual SIM cards for communication with fellow syndicate members and explored the darknet for the manufacturing process.

He procured chemicals and laboratory equipment from Ankleshwar, Gujarat, and was also a wanted individual in a Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) case concerning Mephedrone trafficking.

The vehicle used for transporting the chemicals and equipment has been seized. Investigations further revealed that they had produced 8 kilograms of Mephedrone, with 2 kilograms confiscated by the CBN from an associate on October 28.

An official stated that the NCB utilized the mechanism of monthly District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meetings to raise awareness among district police, particularly in Rajasthan.

The state police were informed about the presence of drums filled with chemicals and lab equipment in an atypical location, which could indicate a clandestine facility for the production of synthetic drugs like Mephedrone.

Furthermore, NCB shared red flag indicators regarding illicit labs with district police nationwide. These indicators included obscured windows, excessive ventilation, signs of corrosion or chemical staining, and unusual storage of chemicals or equipment in previously residential buildings, as stated in the report.

Point of View

Particularly in regions like Rajasthan where the production and distribution of synthetic drugs such as Mephedrone are on the rise. The coordinated efforts of the NCB and local police reflect a proactive approach to combat this pressing issue.
