Kolkata, Oct 5 (NationPress) On Sunday, the city of Kolkata witnessed an extraordinary Durga Puja carnival as approximately 113 esteemed Puja committees showcased their remarkable idols, artistry, and creativity along Red Road.
This vibrant carnival signified the conclusion of the extensive Durga Puja celebrations across West Bengal.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, graced by prominent members from the Bengali Film and Television industries, government officials, state ministers, and various dignitaries.
Taking place on the Red Road stretch between Fort William and Akashvani Bhavan, this carnival highlighted exquisite Durga idols and featured choreographed dance performances that beautifully illustrated the rich culture and traditions of West Bengal prior to the immersion of the idols at Babughat.
In a spirited moment, Banerjee joined in the festivities by playing the dhak, a traditional Bengali drum.
This year, renowned puja committees including Sreebhumi Sporting, Ballygunge Cultural, Jodhpur Park, and many more participated in the grand display.
The carnival attracted hundreds of attendees, comprising local residents, foreign dignitaries, and international tourists.
Additionally, the event showcased enchanting renditions of classic Bengali songs such as DL Roy's 'Dhano Dhanya Pushpabhara Amader Ei Bosundhara', Pratul Mukherjee's 'Ami Banglay Gaan Gai', Monali Thakur's 'Dugga Elo', and Rabindranath Tagore's 'Aji Bangladesher Hridoy Hote', celebrating the natural beauty and heritage of West Bengal.
It’s noteworthy that in December 2021, UNESCO recognized West Bengal's Durga Puja as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
To ensure the safety and smooth operation of the event, comprehensive security and traffic arrangements were implemented, including vehicular restrictions from noon onwards to facilitate the processions.
