New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) Sports memorabilia gifted by India's para-athletes will take center stage at the upcoming 7th edition of the e-auction featuring mementoes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced that this exciting event will kick off on Wednesday.
The e-auction is set to align with Sewa Pakhwada, a nationwide initiative running from September 17 to October 2, in celebration of the Prime Minister's birthday.
According to Shekhawat, this year’s auction will present over 1,300 unique items for bidding on the official site www.pmmementos.gov.in from September 17 to October 2. Currently, these items are on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi.
A special feature of this edition includes sports memorabilia from India's para-athletes who represented the nation at the Paris Paralympics 2024. These artifacts represent resilience, excellence, and the unyielding spirit of Indian sports, as stated by officials.
The auction will also encompass a variety of other items such as paintings, artefacts, sculptures, and idols of gods and goddesses.
The inaugural auction of PM mementoes took place in January 2019. Since that time, numerous distinctive gifts presented to PM Modi have been auctioned, generating over Rs 50 crore to support the Namami Gange Project.
Shekhawat emphasized that PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to dedicate all mementoes received towards this noble initiative.
The collection showcases the cultural diversity of India, featuring traditional art, paintings, sculptures, handicrafts, tribal artefacts, and ceremonial gifts of honor.
Among the items up for auction are: a beautifully embroidered Pashmina shawl from Jammu and Kashmir; a Tanjore painting of Ram Durbar; a metallic statue of Nataraja; Rogan Art from Gujarat depicting the Tree of Life; and a handwoven Naga shawl.
As in previous years, all proceeds will contribute to the Namami Gange Project, which is the Government of India's flagship initiative aimed at the rejuvenation, conservation, and protection of the Ganga and its ecosystem.
The e-auction is not merely an opportunity for citizens to acquire a piece of history, but also to engage in a noble mission—the preservation of the sacred Ganga river, according to the statement.
