New Delhi, Aug 5 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar engaged in discussions with German MP Jurgen Hardt in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing on bilateral cooperation and various global challenges.
In a post shared on X, EAM Jaishankar remarked, "It’s always a pleasure to connect with German MP Jurgen Hardt. We talked about our bilateral cooperation and international issues."
Earlier in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during the G7 Summit held in Kananaskis, Canada. This meeting marked the inaugural conversation between the two leaders since Chancellor Merz took office in May 2025.
During their exchange, PM Modi congratulated the German Chancellor on his recent electoral success and new role. Both leaders expressed their intent to enhance and diversify the strategic partnership between India and Germany.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), "The leaders conveyed their satisfaction with the ongoing momentum in the bilateral relationship and reiterated their dedication to bolster collaboration in vital sectors such as trade and investment, defense and security, green and sustainable development, green energy, technology, innovation, education, and mobility. Both sides are keen to deepen and diversify the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, especially as they celebrate 25 years of cooperation."
During their talks, they also addressed significant regional and global developments. PM Modi expressed anticipation for Chancellor Merz's upcoming visit to India at a mutually agreed time.
"Both leaders acknowledged that terrorism poses a significant threat to global peace and stability. In this context, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Chancellor Merz for Germany’s firm solidarity and support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts," the PMO elaborated.
India was among the first nations to forge diplomatic relations with Germany after World War II. In 2021, India and Germany celebrated the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Since May 2000, the two countries have maintained a 'Strategic Partnership,' which has been further solidified with the initiation of Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) at the Heads of Government level in 2011.
