New Delhi/Johannesburg, Nov 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that he had a “wonderful” meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, emphasizing the strong and growing relationship between India and Germany across vital sectors such as trade, technology, and innovation.

In a brief post on X, the Prime Minister highlighted the increasing strategic and economic engagement between the two nations.

“It was wonderful to meet German Chancellor, Mr. Friedrich Merz. India’s ties with Germany are robust, especially in sectors like trade, technology, and innovation,” PM Modi stated on X.

This meeting occurs as India and Germany enhance cooperation through various bilateral frameworks, including the Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) and the India-Germany High Technology Partnership, along with joint efforts in green and digital transitions. Germany stands as one of India’s top trading partners within the European Union and a key contributor of investment, engineering expertise, and advanced technology.

Although the Ministry of External Affairs did not immediately release official details from Saturday's meeting, PM Modi’s comments suggest that both leaders assessed the current trajectory of their partnership and ongoing collaborative efforts across priority sectors.

Chancellor Merz, who assumed office earlier this year, has prioritized strengthening relationships with significant Indo-Pacific partners. Both countries have maintained consistent high-level political interactions, including through platforms like G20 and G7, covering topics such as climate action, global supply chain resilience, skill development, and mobility and migration cooperation.

Additionally, India and Germany are working closely on green hydrogen, renewable energy, semiconductor development, and advanced manufacturing, which have been earmarked as crucial for future economic collaboration. Germany has partnered with India on numerous clean energy initiatives and has supported India's long-term climate and sustainability goals.

Furthermore, cooperation has expanded into defence manufacturing, vocational training, cybersecurity, digital governance, and academic exchange, areas anticipated to remain central to the bilateral agenda.

With a strategic partnership spanning more than two decades, India and Germany's leadership has consistently emphasized the importance of close collaboration on regional and global matters, including multilateral reform, the rules-based order, and shared democratic values.

PM Modi's recent meeting contributes to the continuity of these valuable exchanges, indicating New Delhi's determination to work closely with the German government as both nations advance in innovation-led and technology-intensive collaborations.
