New Delhi, Sep 3 (NationPress) Describing the India-Germany relationship as extremely significant, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar stated on Wednesday that the bond between the two nations is enhancing in depth.
During a press briefing alongside his German counterpart Johann Wadephul after their discussions in New Delhi, EAM Jaishankar emphasized that the partnership between India and Germany remains very stable, with increasing weight and importance.
When asked about Germany's role in India's strategic partnerships with various nations, the EAM replied, “We maintain crucial strategic ties with several countries. The dynamics of global politics today necessitate the management and optimization of these relationships. Germany, as the largest nation in the European Union, is undoubtedly essential to our global calculations. By almost any measure—be it economic or political—we are both active members of the G4, advocating for reforms in the Security Council and the UN.”
EAM Jaishankar highlighted, “This relationship is incredibly important. It is growing in substance and holds increased value during these uncertain times. Our commitments and policies towards each other remain consistent and predictable, which is highly valued in today’s global politics. This relationship continues to gain strength and significance, evident from our frequent meetings and discussions over the past few months.”
He pointed out the positive developments in education and mobility between the two nations, mentioning that they have also consented to offer free visas for short-term school and college visits, which will further facilitate student exchanges.
“We have observed significant progress in education and mobility, with India now contributing the largest number of foreign students in Germany. During my last two visits, I received commendations regarding our community's contributions from various political factions in Germany. The skilled labor strategy introduced by the German government presents a beneficial framework for both nations. We have also agreed on complimentary visas for brief school and college trips to encourage student exchanges.”
The EAM also discussed the case of baby Ariha Shah with his German counterpart, emphasizing the importance of ensuring her cultural rights and upbringing in an Indian environment.
“Regarding consular matters, I raised the case of Ariha Shah, an Indian child currently under the care of German authorities. I stressed the need to secure her cultural rights and ensure she grows up in an Indian setting. This issue requires urgent resolution, and we have had discussions on it today,” he noted.
Ariha Shah was taken into custody by Germany's Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt) on September 23, 2021, after suffering an accidental injury at the age of seven months. She has been in foster care since then. India insists on the importance of her remaining in her linguistic, religious, cultural, and social environment.
