New Delhi, Aug 14 (NationPress) As the BJP asserts that the Supreme Court is providing the Election Commission a clean slate, the Opposition persists in scrutinizing its operations. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha stated on Thursday that while questions are being directed at the poll panel, the responses are emanating from the ruling party.
In a conversation with IANS, Manoj Jha argued: "It is merely stated to deliver comments hastily. They (the BJP) ought to abstain from such statements. They are voicing opinions without allowing the process to reach its conclusion. Dead individuals are appearing on the voters’ list, data is not being shared, and image files are being utilized. Astonishing — at this point, the ECI is so feeble that it has entrusted its defense to the BJP. This bond between the two is perilous."
"The inquiry pertains to the functionality of the ECI, and the BJP is providing the answers. The BJP has significantly contributed to the erosion of ECI's credibility," he elaborated.
Regarding the Supreme Court's silence on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission, Jha remarked: "Those are merely comments. Let’s not preempt anything; let’s await the verdict."
When asked if he trusts the Supreme Court or believes the apex court is doing a favor, he responded: "No, I believe it’s prudent to elevate the Supreme Court above such statements. It serves as the only beacon of hope in the darkness. It would be best if we avoid entangling the top court in these allegations."
Jha also commented on Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’, commencing from Bihar’s Rohtas district on August 17, intended to protest the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in the state.
"Have you recently visited Bihar? Whoever suggested the SIR has scripted a plan to oust the BJP from there. Every voter is now questioning: ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor’,” he asserted.
On whether the SIR should be annulled, Jha stated: "The matter rests with the Supreme Court, so no statements should be made regarding that. Nonetheless, I would reiterate that our ideal was the inaugural Chief Election Commissioner, Sukumar Sen. I believe the BJP operates on WhatsApp knowledge and may lack familiarity with him. He should be our model, not the Election Commission of Bangladesh."
Amidst the Opposition’s staunch resistance to the SIR initiative and calls for a poll boycott in Bihar, Jha on Wednesday made a sarcastic remark directed at the Election Commission, indicating that it should not seek inspiration from its Bangladeshi counterpart.
