New Delhi, Aug 3 (NationPress) The BJP has strongly criticized the Congress and the RJD for employing a “false” narrative to undermine institutions. On Sunday, they directed their ire towards Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, who allegedly attempted to tarnish the recent electoral roll revision in Bihar by claiming his name had been removed.
During a press briefing, BJP spokesperson Patra asserted that the real issue lies within the INDIA alliance, particularly with the Congress and RJD, who appear intent on discrediting the Election Commission of India (ECI) to protect only their political dynasties.
Tejashwi had proclaimed on Saturday that his name was omitted from the electoral roll after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), raising concerns about his ability to participate in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Patra recounted how the Leader of Opposition presented a live demonstration in an attempt to locate his EPIC number within the roll.
“When he was unable to find his EPIC number, he proclaimed that democracy was under threat because his number was absent from the list. However, the election office swiftly rejected his assertion,” Patra noted.
He highlighted that the EPIC number referenced by the election office differed from the one Tejashwi was trying to find, sparking questions about the legitimacy of his claims. “Doesn’t this raise suspicions that he might possess a duplicate EPIC number? I ask him, is he mocking the democratic process by having two EPIC cards?” Patra challenged.
“Can you fathom the state of the Rashtriya Janata Dal when its leader holds two cards? How many voter IDs do RJD members possess? Is this the reason for RJD's fear regarding the SIR?” the BJP spokesperson questioned.
Patra also shared printouts of Bihar electoral rolls from the 2020 and 2025 Assembly elections to demonstrate that Tejashwi’s name is present in the voter list and to substantiate that the election office was relying on the same EPIC number he provided in his nomination papers.
The BJP representative accused the RJD leader of forgery and attempting to vote at two different locations using both EPIC numbers.
Previously, while denying Tejashwi's allegations of misconduct in the SIR, sources from the Bihar election office suggested that the Leader of Opposition might have unlawfully obtained a second voter ID card a decade ago.
According to the election office sources, an investigation into Tejashwi's electoral roll records has indicated that his now-invalid second Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was never issued through official channels.
Patra emphasized that this scandal is not solely about Tejashwi but reflects the mentality of the INDIA bloc parties, which seem focused on targeting constitutional bodies like the ECI.
“Both Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav are not working to safeguard the nation but are instead trying to secure their sons' political futures,” he remarked.
“Perhaps this is the bombshell Rahul Gandhi was threatening to unleash regarding electoral misconduct. But let me clarify: the country is not intimidated by Rahul Gandhi’s dud bomb, which has proven to be as ineffective as Pakistan's failed nuclear weapon,” concluded Patra.
