New Delhi, Aug 2 (NationPress) The ongoing controversy surrounding RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav regarding his name in the draft voter list took an intriguing turn on Saturday. An ECI source suggested that the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar may have unlawfully obtained a second voter ID card nearly a decade ago.
On a day that saw the ECI countering Yadav’s claims about his name being absent from the draft list, the election office source indicated that inquiries into the RJD leader’s electoral roll records have, to date, revealed that his now-defunct second Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was never issued through legitimate channels.
With suspicions of forgery surrounding the creation of Yadav’s second EPIC, ECI sources reported that the RJD leader utilized Electoral Roll with EPIC No. RAB0456228 when filling out his nomination papers in 2020. This EPIC number also appeared in the electoral roll in 2015.
However, investigations revealed another EPIC number - RAB2916120 – linked to his name, which has been deemed non-existent.
Sources noted that despite an extensive examination of decade-old documents related to Yadav, no traces of the second EPIC number have been discovered thus far.
“It is highly probable that the second EPIC was never issued through official means,” stated a source from the Bihar election office, adding that an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the legitimacy of the second EPIC number and to determine if it is indeed a forged document.
Earlier in the day, Yadav ignited a political uproar by asserting that his name was missing from Bihar's draft electoral roll.
The District Electoral Officer (DEO) of Patna promptly issued a counterstatement, affirming that Tejashwi Yadav’s name is indeed included in the updated voter list.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, the DEO’s office stated: “Tejashwi Yadav’s assertion that his name is missing from the electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is inaccurate. His name appears at Serial Number 416, with polling booth number 204 — Veterinary College, Patna.”
