Patna, Aug 8 (NationPress) The administration in Patna has issued a second reminder to Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Bihar Leader of Opposition, requesting an explanation concerning his possession of two distinct Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers, according to officials on Friday.
The administration has set a deadline for the RJD leader to provide his response by August 16.
A letter from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) highlighted that during a press conference on August 2, Tejashwi Yadav asserted that his EPIC number was RAB2916120.
However, a search for this number on the Election Commission of India's website after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2025 revealed no results, as the name associated with it was absent from the draft electoral roll.
Further investigation by the district administration confirmed that Tejashwi Yadav's name is included in the voter roll under EPIC number RAB0456228 with serial number 416 at the Bihar Animal Sciences University’s library building, polling station number 204.
This same EPIC number was cited in the RJD leader's affidavits for the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections, as well as in the documentation submitted to the Booth Level Officer during the SIR-2025.
Officials indicated that the number RAB2916120 presented at the press conference appears to be invalid and potentially forged.
The letter cautioned that the creation and usage of falsified government documents constitutes a criminal offense, instructing Tejashwi Yadav to return the disputed card to the Electoral Registration Officer by 5 p.m. on August 16.
The first reminder regarding this issue was dispatched on August 6, but as Tejashwi Yadav had not yet responded by 5 p.m. on Friday, a follow-up notice was issued.
On Thursday, Tejashwi Yadav addressed the matter of the dual voter ID cards, stating, “We haven't received any notice from the Election Commission. We are responding to the communication from the level of the sub-divisional officer.” He challenged the legitimacy of the complaint, asking: “Who issued the two EPIC numbers? The individual responsible for issuing them is now questioning us about their origin. The error lies with someone else, yet we are being summoned to provide answers.”
