Patna, Aug 13 (NationPress) RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav expressed his concerns on Wednesday, claiming that the Election Commission of India (ECI) revoked one of his Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers without informing him. "I had no knowledge that the Election Commission canceled one of my EPIC numbers. Their actions were taken without my awareness, and they need to clarify this situation," Tejashwi stated while addressing reporters in Patna.
The issue surfaced on August 2, when Tejashwi highlighted during a press briefing that his EPIC number was absent from the Election Commission's official website and mobile app.
As a result, the Patna Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), who also serves as the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), issued two notices instructing him to relinquish one of his EPIC numbers.
On August 8, Tejashwi responded to the notices from the Electoral Registration Officer-cum-SDM of Patna.
Tejashwi reiterated his claims of extensive irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, stating, "We have highlighted numerous discrepancies to the Election Commission, but neither the Chief Election Commissioner of India nor the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar has addressed them. They are not holding any press conferences - possibly due to interference from senior BJP leaders."
He further accused the ruling party of exploiting institutions, saying, "The BJP previously used agencies like ED and CBI; now they are manipulating the Election Commission."
Tejashwi alleged that the Commission is undermining the electoral process at the behest of the BJP.
Citing specific instances, he claimed, "The name of Muzaffarpur Mayor and senior BJP leader Nirmala Devi appears in two different voter lists within the same constituency, with two distinct EPIC cards and inconsistent ages."
He also pointed out that Nirmala Devi's two brothers-in-law possess duplicate registrations with separate IDs.
Moreover, Tejashwi noted that after raising concerns about the two EPIC numbers associated with Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, the Election Commission subsequently issued a notice to him.
