New Delhi, Aug 4 (NationPress) The assertion by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav that his name has been omitted from Bihar's draft electoral roll has ignited a political storm. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has categorically dismissed this claim as “factually incorrect,” while leaders from the BJP, JD(U), and Shiv Sena have condemned Yadav for “misleading the public” and have attributed the issue to mistakes he made during the verification process.

In a statement to IANS, JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi remarked, “The Election Commission has clearly rebutted Tejashwi Yadav’s claim. He must accept the mistake and correct it. It’s unfortunate that a senior leader is making such careless statements.”

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also weighed in, saying, “He himself made a mistake during the process and is now pointing fingers at the Election Commission. But, now he’s been exposed.”

Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde stated, “Tejashwi Yadav's name is missing from the voters list because he provided incorrect information. Officials have given him all the relevant details, including where his name is registered. Yet, he has not responded, which is surprising.”

Contrastingly, Samajwadi Party leader Virendra Singh has called for the ECI to clarify the situation.

“The Election Commission must verify whether the voter ID Tejashwi used during his MLA nomination is valid. We need to know if his Aadhaar card and EPIC number are accurate.”

This controversy arose after Yadav claimed that his name had been removed from Bihar's draft electoral roll, which was released following a month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

This accusation comes just ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for later this year.

In response, the Election Commission confirmed that Yadav's name is listed at Serial Number 416 in the draft list and dismissed his claims as groundless.

The incident follows a recent controversy involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had also expressed concerns about electoral roll manipulation.

Yadav reportedly attempted to verify his details using an EPIC number linked to his voter ID. However, the number did not yield results on the Election Commission's online portal.

Sources within the Commission have revealed that the EPIC number cited by Yadav is invalid and preliminary findings suggest he may be holding two separate voter ID cards.

The Election Commission has initiated an enquiry into the matter, and if it is determined that Yadav possesses multiple voter IDs, an FIR will be lodged against him under applicable electoral laws.
