Mumbai, April 19 (NationPress) The initiative taken by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the National Herald case is focused on preserving the nation's assets from being "usurped by the Gandhi family for personal gain," stated Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Saturday.

While addressing the media here, the Union Minister emphasized that the ED's efforts are aimed at "protecting national assets from being diverted under the pretext of a political legacy."

"These resources should serve the public, not the Gandhi family, which is attempting to retain them for private interests," the minister remarked.

Goyal alleged that prominent Congress figures, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, were part of a scheme to seize control of the property originally designated for public benefit.

These comments follow the ED's recent submission of a chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) naming Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others in the National Herald case.

The Special Court has scheduled April 25 for the discussion regarding the acceptance of the chargesheet. Other individuals named in the chargesheet include Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, among others.

New challenges for the Congress-controlled AJL arise as the ED issues notices to property registrars in Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow to take over attached assets valued at Rs 661 crore. These assets were seized following investigations which unveiled significant generation, possession, and use of proceeds from crime amounting to Rs 988 crore.

Earlier in the day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge claimed a "deep conspiracy" was behind the inclusion of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi's names in the chargesheet. He asserted that the actions were politically driven and part of a larger vendetta orchestrated by the BJP-led Centre.

"You may have observed how, as part of a grand conspiracy, the names of CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have surfaced in the ED chargesheet concerning the National Herald case. Regardless of the names involved, we remain undeterred," Kharge stated while addressing a gathering of AICC general secretaries, state in-charges, and heads of party frontal organizations.
