ED Conducts Raids on Congress Leader's Home in Indore, Arrests Him at Airport

Bhopal, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) executed a series of raids at the residence and office of Congress leader Vishal Agnihotri in Indore on Monday, apprehending him at the Indore airport.
The ED's actions are part of an investigation linked to a purported betting scam that came to light in June of this year in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain.
Agnihotri, who serves as the acting president of the Indore district Congress unit, was detained at Ahilyabai Airport in Indore while he was preparing to board a flight to Dubai.
He is reportedly associated with Congress stalwart and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath.
Upon the ED team's arrival at Agnihotri’s residence located in the Chandan Nagar area of Indore, they discovered he had already departed for Dubai. Nonetheless, the team, along with local police, apprehended him at the airport just moments before his flight.
The Congress leader's detention is in relation to his alleged connections with Piyush Chopra, a bookie arrested alongside others during a raid in Ujjain back in June.
A significant police presence, including personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was stationed outside Agnihotri's residence while ED officials conducted searches that extended late into Monday evening.
It is noteworthy that on June 14, state police dismantled a cricket betting ring operating out of Ujjain, resulting in the arrest of 10 individuals. The operation yielded cash totaling Rs 14.58 crore, along with 41 mobile phones, 19 laptops, and numerous national and international SIM cards.
The primary suspect, Piyush Chopra, was found with 3,000 bundles of Rs 500 notes, 7 kilograms of silver, and various foreign currencies from seven different nations. Sources indicate that authorities utilized machines to count the seized cash, a process that extended throughout the night.
In addition, the ED had conducted raids at various locations, including Indore and Raisen, two weeks prior. Alarmingly, one businessman targeted during the ED's searches tragically took his own life along with his wife in the Sehore district.
