Bhubaneswar, Aug 31 (NationPress) The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has executed search operations at various locations associated with an Odisha-based entrepreneur involved in mining activities in Bhubaneswar, as part of an investigation into a bank fraud case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
The raids were carried out by ED-Shimla on Saturday. According to ED sources, these searches pertain to an ongoing money laundering probe concerning the bank fraud case of M/s Indian Technomac Company Ltd (M/s ITCOL), which involves approximately Rs 1,396 crore.
The locations targeted during the raids included the residential property of miner Shakti Ranjan Dash and the business premises of companies with Dash serving as Managing Director, namely M/s Anmol Mines Private Limited (AMPL) and M/s Anmol Resources Private Limited (ARPL).
According to a press statement from the ED, the investigation was initiated based on an FIR filed by the CID, Himachal Pradesh Police against M/s ITCOL and its promoters. The allegations state that directors of M/s ITCOL, in collusion with other officials from various companies and chartered accountants, siphoned off loans obtained from a consortium of banks.
The investigation revealed that M/s ITCOL had acquired loans from a consortium led by Bank of India between 2009 and 2013 by presenting forged detailed project reports and faking sales through shell companies.
Moreover, it was found that the loans from M/s ITCOL were not used for their intended purposes, resulting in a bank fraud amounting to around Rs 1,396 crore.
Previously, the ED had attached assets valued at Rs 310 crore, out of which Rs 289 crore was returned to the consortium of banks led by Bank of India in April.
During the investigation under PMLA, it was discovered that M/s ITCOL and its associated shell entities had diverted Rs 59.80 crore into bank accounts of M/s Anmol Mines Private Limited, Odisha (AMPL).
Furthermore, it was established that Dash knowingly assisted Rakesh Kumar Sharma (the promoter of M/s ITCOL) in diverting bank loan funds for mining activities in Odisha.
The agency added that Dash integrated these funds (Proceeds of Crime) into the accounts of M/s Anmol Mines Pvt. Ltd., falsely presenting this tainted money as legitimate in its financial records.
During the search operations, the ED officials confiscated 10 luxury vehicles and three super bikes belonging to Dash and companies he beneficially owns.
The seized collection of high-end vehicles and super bikes features a Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X7, Audi A3, Mini Cooper, and a Honda Gold Wing Bike, with a total worth exceeding Rs 7 crore. Additionally, Rs 13 lakh in cash, jewelry valued at approximately Rs 1.12 crore, and various incriminating documents pertaining to properties owned by Dash and his companies have been seized. Moreover, two lockers belonging to Dash were also frozen during the operations.
