Bhubaneswar, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) executed extensive searches in multiple states including Odisha, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, seizing vital evidence linked to a Rs 73 crore bank loan fraud involving a private enterprise, as confirmed by an official report on Monday.
As part of the operation led by the ED's Bhubaneswar zonal unit, a collection of crucial documents tied to properties worth several crores were recovered and confiscated in the case pertaining to S R Alcobev Private Limited and other parties, according to the official statement.
The searches, which took place on October 29, were carried out under the guidelines of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
Allegations state that S R Alcobev Private Limited defrauded Punjab National Bank and Indian Bank (formerly Allahabad Bank) out of Rs 73 crore by applying for a bank loan and misappropriating the funds for unauthorized purposes within other businesses.
The ED began its investigation based on an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing scheduled offenses under the PMLA, 2002.
During the operations, the ED uncovered and seized documents evidencing a systematic diversion of loan funds from S R Alcobev Private Limited to Brewforce Technologies and other affiliated entities.
Moreover, numerous documents related to properties valued in crores were found and seized, reflecting the acquisition of assets through diverted funds, as stated in the report.
The investigation revealed that S R Alcobev Private Limited had accessed credit facilities totaling Rs 73 crore from the banks, but its officials misappropriated these funds to acquire illegal assets and support the business operations of their affiliates.
In collaboration with related companies and associated entities, the firm misused the approved funds for unauthorized purposes, resulting in a significant loss to the lending institutions and the government, as per the complaint against the company.
The ED has launched a comprehensive investigation into the roles of individuals, directors, and beneficiary entities associated with the fraud, and is expected to gather more evidence against the suspects in the near future, the statement concluded.
