Chennai, Sep 1 (NationPress) Elathur Lake, located in the Erode district, has officially been designated as Tamil Nadu’s third Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS), serving as a sanctuary for numerous migratory birds and a range of wildlife.
The state government has released a notification under Section 37(1) of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, for the lake, which spans an area of 37.42 hectares.
This new classification places Elathur alongside Arittapatti in Madurai, recognized in November 2022, and Kasampatty in Dindigul, which was notified in March 2025.
