Patna, May 16 (NationPress) Vivek Joshi, the Election Commissioner of India, convened a significant meeting in Patna on Friday to assess the readiness for the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections, as stated by an official.
The gathering included key figures such as Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar, Kundan Krishnan, the State Police Nodal Officer, Chandrashekhar Singh, the District Magistrate and District Election Officer of Patna, Avkash Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police-Patna, along with other senior officials.
In this meeting, comprehensive presentations were made regarding electoral readiness, law enforcement strategies, and polling infrastructure, focusing on the Patna district.
Dr. Joshi underscored the necessity of executing free, fair, inclusive, and peaceful elections with an emphasis on maximizing voter involvement.
Officials discussed initiatives related to adherence to the model code of conduct, special summary revisions of the voter list, systematic voter education, the law and order situation, management of polling staff, accessibility for persons with disabilities (PwD) and senior citizens, as well as mechanisms for grievance redressal.
The Election Commissioner voiced concerns over the low registration rates among youth voters.
While approximately 64 lakh individuals aged 18-19 reside in Bihar, only 8,08,857 are currently registered.
He urged officials to ramp up efforts to boost youth registration.
Furthermore, he noted that Bihar's average voting percentage of 56.28% in the last Lok Sabha elections was significantly lower than the national average of 66.10%, prompting him to call for a micro-level strategy to enhance voter turnout.
The CEO of Bihar reported that the total number of voters is about 7.80 crore, which includes 7,69,046 PwD voters, 5,91,347 senior voters (85+), and 77,895 polling stations.
Joshi emphasized the imperative to guarantee essential facilities at each polling station and highlighted the importance of inclusive participation, especially for PwD and elderly voters. He is scheduled to visit Motihari, East Champaran and also review the electoral preparations in Bettiah (West Champaran).
On Sunday, he will engage with SSB officials and conduct an area inspection in Valmiki Nagar and on Monday, he will evaluate the preparations at the ground level in Vaishali.
These inspections are intended to assess voter facilities, security measures, training programs, and the overall readiness of the electoral framework.
Through this visit, the Election Commission reaffirms its dedication to conducting transparent, peaceful, and participatory elections in Bihar.
