Bengaluru, Aug 6 (NationPress) The preparations are currently in high gear in Karnataka for the upcoming visit of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on August 8 (Friday).
A series of discussions were conducted with party leaders and national figures to finalize arrangements for the protest against alleged election fraud by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
A preparatory meeting took place on Wednesday at the KPCC's Bharat Jodo Bhavan.
The meeting featured notable attendees including AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and KPCC Campaign Committee Chairman Vinay Sorake, along with several ministers and party officials.
Randeep Singh Surjewala and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar inspected the Freedom Park site to assess the preparations for the protest scheduled on August 8 against alleged voter fraud attributed to the Central Election Commission.
In a media briefing at the KPCC Office, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar emphasized the responsibility of political parties to safeguard voters' rights, stating that the Congress leadership is taking the issue of vote theft seriously.
Shivakumar remarked: "Rahul Gandhi is set to arrive at 10:30 am for the protest in Bengaluru concerning vote theft on August 8 (Friday). The event, initially slated for August 5, was postponed due to the passing of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Our national leaders aim to present compelling evidence to the Election Commission regarding the vote theft."
When queried about the documents to be submitted to the Election Commission, he replied, "I won't reveal that. Given the national significance of the matter, our senior leaders will provide details during a press conference."
When asked if a rally would occur, he confirmed that the protest would be held at Freedom Park.
Additionally, Shivakumar mentioned that preparations for the elections to the five municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) would be concluded by November 1. The Election Commission's opinion will be solicited regarding the formulation of registration rules.
"We have instructed party leaders and workers on how to uphold the right to vote. Another series of meetings will be arranged involving block presidents and MLAs," he stated.
In response to a question about the Chief Minister's participation in the INDIA bloc meeting, he noted, "The Chief Minister has received an invitation to the INDIA bloc event. However, I will remain here to oversee the protest meeting preparations."
"Bengaluru and Karnataka have consistently conveyed a powerful message to the nation. The INDIA bloc was also established in Bengaluru. The protest against voter theft is being organized at the historic Freedom Park venue in adherence to court directives," he added.
"We have instructed that 50 party workers and leaders, including ministers, MLAs, and defeated candidates, from each district outside Bengaluru, must engage in the protest," he concluded.
