Bengaluru, July 31 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, announced on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to spearhead a demonstration against purported voter fraud at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on August 5.
Shivakumar stated that following the demonstration, a memorandum will be presented to the office of the State Election Commission.
“It is crucial to safeguard the rights of voters and uphold the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi believes initiating this movement from Karnataka will provide it with significant momentum. Numerous irregularities were reported during the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, which our leaders will bring to light,” Shivakumar said.
The Deputy Chief Minister further mentioned that the protest will adhere to the regulations set forth by the state government and comply with court orders.
“Party workers and leaders are encouraged to participate in the protest, with representatives from all districts across the state invited,” he added.
When questioned about the Congress party's delay in filing objections regarding the draft electoral rolls, Shivakumar clarified that objections had indeed been submitted but were not recognized by the Election Commission.
“In the Mahadevapura assembly constituency, candidate H. Nagesh and his son provided documentation. A similar situation occurred in the Gandhinagar assembly constituency represented by Minister for Health Dinesh Gundu Rao, where 7,000 new voters were registered in one ward,” he stated.
The Deputy Chief Minister indicated that Rahul Gandhi would decide which constituencies' voter data would be disclosed.
In response to the BJP's inquiries regarding the Congress's activities over the 45 days post-election, he replied, “We were taking some time after the elections. We swore in, initiated the five guarantee schemes, and delivered benefits to our citizens.”
Previously, Shivakumar, along with AICC General Secretary and Karnataka In-Charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, assessed the preparations near Bengaluru's Freedom Park in anticipation of the protest.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remarked that Rahul Gandhi possesses evidence pertaining to the voter fraud in Bengaluru.
“Rahul Gandhi will lead a protest and lodge a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka,” noted the Chief Minister.
