Srinagar, May 15 (NationPress) A fierce gunfight erupted on Thursday between security forces and terrorists who were hiding in the Tral region of Jammu and Kashmir's Awantipora sub-division.

The police reported on X, "An encounter has commenced in Nader, Tral area of #Awantipora. Police and security personnel are actively engaged. More details will follow soon."

Following actionable intelligence, security forces cordoned off the Nader village in Tral tehsil to conduct thorough searches.

"As the security forces closed in on the hidden terrorists, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued and is ongoing," stated the police.

This marks the second encounter this week between security forces and terrorists.

On May 13, three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists were eliminated in a gunfight with the security forces in Shopian district.

The deceased terrorists included the operational chief of LeT, Shahid Kuttay.

Just two hours after a ceasefire was established on May 10 at 5 p.m. between India and Pakistan, terrorists launched an attack on the sentry post outside the headquarters of White Knight Corps in the Nagrota area of Jammu.

India has made it explicitly clear that any act of terrorism on its soil will be considered an act of war.

On April 22, terrorists backed by Pakistan killed 26 innocent individuals, including 25 tourists and a local in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.

This cowardly assault was attributed to LeT terrorists according to security forces. Consequently, India retaliated by conducting precision strikes on terror targets within Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Despite agreeing to a ceasefire, India has affirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty will remain suspended, and trade with Pakistan will not resume.

During Pakistan's targeting of civilian regions along the Line of Control and the International Border, over 200 homes and shops were destroyed, displacing hundreds of border residents to seek shelter in safer areas away from the conflict.

The affected families have not yet returned home as security forces continue to neutralize unexploded Pakistani mortar shells in the impacted zones.
