Chennai, April 13 (NationPress) Former Kerala government pleader, P.G. Manu, who was embroiled in multiple rape accusations, tragically took his own life on Sunday.

He was discovered hanging in his rented accommodation in Anandavalleeswaram, Kollam, merely days after a video surfaced online where he was seen apologising to a woman.

Manu had been released on bail in a case where he was charged with repeatedly raping a female client.

While out on bail, yet another woman came forward with allegations that Manu had sexually assaulted her as well.

A video that emerged recently depicted Manu visiting the home of the first complainant with his family, where he was seen offering his apologies to her.

According to the initial complaint, the first rape survivor had approached Manu in 2018 for legal assistance.

She alleged that on October 9, 2023, he raped her at his office under the guise of discussing her case.

She also claimed that he sexually assaulted her again on October 24 and 29, in addition to taking explicit photographs and videos of her without her consent.

As a result of her allegations, Manu faced charges under Sections 376 (rape), 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, along with pertinent sections of the Information Technology Act.

Following the filing of the case, Manu resigned from his role as government pleader.

His efforts to secure anticipatory bail from the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court were unsuccessful.

He was arrested in January 2023 after avoiding police capture for 60 days and spent 50 days in judicial custody.

He was granted bail in March 2023, under strict conditions, including a ban on engaging in any further criminal activity.

However, last week, a new video surfaced where a man confronted Manu, accusing him of raping his wife, who had also sought legal counsel from the former pleader.

The video captured the man denouncing Manu, and reports indicated that a formal police complaint was on the horizon.

A new case would likely have resulted in his re-arrest, as it would breach the conditions of his bail.

Manu's demise marks a tragic conclusion to a case that has already caused significant uproar within the legal community in Kerala.
